Supporters of presidential hopeful Barack Obama will hold a Memorial Day barbecue at the former Ulster Park Landing today from noon to 4 p.m.
The group, Hudson Valley for Obama, will begin collecting signatures on a petition opposing the war in Iraq.
More than 3,300 Americans have been killed in the war. A spokesman for the group, Stephen Gilman, said the petition would be sent to the White House. Gilman is a former paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. His wife, Julia Bronson Gilman, was a student of Obama’s at the University of Chicago Law School in the early ’90s and has followed his public career ever since.
The event will include free food and live jazz. Call 687-7374 or e-mail for further information.
