Earl Gibbs, Sr., a 21 year resident of Pine Bush, passed away, Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen. He was 102 years old.

The son of the late John and Indianna Gibbs, he was born March 21, 1905 in Bayboro, N.C.

Mr. Gibbs was a retired custodial engineer at Benjamin Franklin High School, New York City.

He is survived by one daughter, Haniyyah Muhammad of Pine Bush; one son, Earl Gibbs, Jr. of Jersey City, N.J.; four grandsons: Azim Smith of Hurricane, W. Va., Saeed Smith of Middletown, Earl Patrick Irons of Florence, Ala., and E. Lamont Gibbs and his wife, Lawanda of Suffolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Yvette Anderson and husband, Terrel of Orlando, Fla., and Sakinah Muhammad of Pine Bush; one great-grandson, Javon Irons of Florence, Ala.; five great-granddaughters: Noquesha Noel Anderson of Orlando, Fla., Paige, Drew, and Kennedy Gibbs of Suffolk, Va. and Jaielle Litchinson Smith of Phoenix, Ariz. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends further survived him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by two brothers, Horace and Randolph Gibbs; three sisters: Sine, Helena Jones, and Vivian Fisher.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Valley View for their care and friendship of our father and grandfather during his eleven years there.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 10-11 a.m at St. James Church of God in Christ, 137 Linden Ave., Middletown.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. James Church of God in Christ, Middletown, with the Rev. Dr. William A. Best, officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Middletown.
