City of Newburgh - Marge Bell, a social worker and the owner of the Newburgh Artisans at Liberty and Ann streets, will seek one of two open City Council seats this fall. Bell, a Democrat, is also the president of the Newburgh Community Improvement Corporation’s board and a member of the city’s fledgling Ethics Board.
If elected, Bell, 58, said she would focus on reforming several municipal bodies, including the Industrial Development Agency, which brokers deals in the city with would-be developers.
“Multimillion dollar development decisions should not be decided in a back room,” Bell said.
Bell has lived in Newburgh for 10 years and may be known best as a social worker at North Junior High School.
She joins what is expected to be a crowded field, with three declared candidates for mayor and several more eyeing the available City Council seats.
