John J. Shoemaker, 59, of Mt. Ulla, N.C. and formerly of Howells, N.Y. and Lisbon, N.Y., died Monday, May 28, 2007 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Bedford Shoemaker; his mother, Mildred Shoemaker of Howells; his children, Scott A. Shoemaker, Jennifer Shoemaker, Kori Ann Shoemaker, Jason A. Brighton and Brian R. Brighton; his grandchildren, Joshua Brighton, Jayden Brighton and Mya Kiel; his brother, Ronald W. Shoemaker of Cornwall, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father, John A. Shoemaker and his brother, George W. Shoemaker.

He was born on December 13, 1947 in Middletown, N.Y., the son of John A. and Mildred Decker Shoemaker.

He is a graduate of Middletown High School and served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970 serving his country in the Vietnam War.

He was a graduate of Oklahoma Farrier School and was self employed as a Blacksmith. He was also employed by New York State Department of Mental Health at Mid Hudson Physch Center for 23 years as a senior security hospital treatment assistant.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, street rods, and his horses.
