Josephine H. Brown, a homemaker and former area resident, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Barnegat Nursing Home in Barnegat, N.J. She was 99 years old.

The daughter of the late George and Catherine Meagher Hawksby, she was born February 7, 1908 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Josephine was a woman of strong spirit with a great sense of humor. She was an avid golfer and was a wonderful and gifted storyteller. She created her own diet and exercise program before it became fashionable. She had found the secret of longevity in verona cookies and a wee cup of tea. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.

Josephine is survived by her son, George and his wife, Virginia, of Westtown; her daughters, Catherine Magnanini and her husband, Aldo, of Barnegat, N.J. and Joan Kelly and her husband, Robert, of LaCresenta, Calif.; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is predeceased by three brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, June — from 2 to — and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Otisville. Burial will follow in the family plot in George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, N.J.
