City of Newburgh - Damone Gadsen, the 27-year-old who authorites say is the leader of Newburgh’s storied “Ave. World” gang, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison yesterday.
Gadsen was found guilty in April of drug conspiracy and sales charges after a jury trial. Gadsen won acquittals on additional gun and drug charges.
Prosecutors say Gadsen was a leader and enforcer of the gang who sold crack cocaine from 143 N. Miller St., known as the “Ice Cream Shop.” Working in shifts, the gang sold crack around the clock.
Prosecutors say Gadsen decided who could sell crack with his crew.
Gadsen was one of 12 men arrested beginning in January 2004, when local and federal investigators began targeting the Ice Cream Shop.
