Goshen - An Orange County jail inmate broke a correction officer’s nose in an assault after being let out of his cell to get medication, the sheriff’s office said yesterday.
Dennis Sprague, 35, of Montgomery, has been charged with two felonies – assault with intent to cause injury to an officer, and assault while confined to a correctional facility – in connection with the attack on Saturday.
Capt. Dennis Barry of the sheriff’s office said the officer was treated for a broken nose and facial cuts at the Arden Hill campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. He wouldn’t identify the officer.
Sprague was being held at the Orange County Jail for a previous assault, Barry said. He was returned to the jail without bail after being arraigned on the new charges.
