Maxine Melvin, 76, a 60-year resident of Newburgh, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y.

The daughter of the late John Spearman and Katie Newton, she was born September 30, 1930 in Ingold, N.C.

She was a retired food service employee for the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. She was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church, Newburgh.

Survivors include grandchildren: Rocretsha Hatchett and husband, Joseph and Jaqwana Smith, all of Newburgh and Glenn Melvin of Charlotte, N.C.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; companion, Irisstella Williams of Newburgh; three nieces: Nancy Robinson and Patricia Dubois, both of Newburgh and Reba Spearman, of New Windsor; two nephews, Norwood Spearman of New Windsor and George Spearman of Sacramento, Calif.; several other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents and daughter, Gloria Moore.

Visitation will be Monday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Church of God of Prophecy, 477 First St., Newburgh, N.Y.

Services begin at 12 noon with Pastor Willie Mays, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middlehope, N.Y.
