Middletown — A lecture, "Eating, Dancing, and Courting in New York: Black and Latino Relations 1930-the Present," will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at SUNY Orange, Harriman Hall 111, on the corner of Wawayanda and East Conkling Avenues in Middletown.

The lecture, led by Dr. Frederick Douglass Opie, will focus on southern African American and Hispanic Caribbean migration to New York and the race and gender dynamics that developed between them.

Dr. Opie is associate professor of history and director of the African Diapora Program at Marist College.

Opie has published many articles and has a book on black and Latino relations that will be published this year. He is an accomplished athlete having been on the 1990 United States Men's National Lacrosse Team, and inducted into The Hudson Valley Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He is the faculty advisor for the Marist College Red Foxes Men's Lacrosse Team and a member of the board of directors for US Lacrosse.
