George R. Greiner Sr., 89, of Marlboro, NY, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Vassar Bros. Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born in Marlboro, NY on January 23, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles A. and the late Adah (Smith) Greiner.

George served during World War II in the Army as a Tech Sergeant. He was a self-employed local Fruit Farmer and Cider Maker at George R. Greiner and Sons Fruit Farm in Marlboro, NY.

Survivors include two sons, Grover H. and Barbara Greiner of Marlboro, Robert T. and Margaret Greiner of Marlboro; two daughters, Mary Linda Vandermark of Milton, Sandra and Anthony Pascale of Marlboro; four sisters: Lois Hepworth of Milton, Gladys Cromie of Newburgh, Marion Malcolm of Kingston and Jean Betters of Maryland; daughter-in-law, Theresa Greiner of Marlboro; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary J. Thiell Greiner, who died December 27, 2001; one son, George R. Greiner, Jr., who died July 1, 1993; one son-in-law, Odell Vandermark, Jr., who died in 1993; five brothers: Everett, Charles, Ernest, Harold and David Greiner, and two sisters, Velda Odell and Florence Tuthill.

A family statement reads: "George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always generous and sharing his bounty from the farm with family and community. He loved to travel, driving to Alaska twice. He loved to cook for family and friends. His love of the land and the outdoors led him to be an avid hunter and fisherman. George was a great storyteller, making believers of all who heard him spin many a yarn."

Mr. Greiner was past President and member of the Marlboro Board of Education; member of the Farm Bureau and Cornell Cooperative Ext., and one of the original members of the Mid Hudson Valley Growers Association.

Cremation was private and at the convenience of the family.
