Mary F. Sylvestri, a longtime resident of the Town of Highlands, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center in Albany on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Mary was 85 years old.

The daughter of Mario and Luisa (Riva) Fasana from Cernobbio, Italy, Mary was born in N.Y.C. on March 30, 1922, and raised with her four sisters in Westchester.

Mary was a graduate of business school, and worked for Eastern Aircraft during World War II. While working in the payroll department, she met her future husband, Henry, a Midshipman at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. They married on August 1, 1948.

Mary, a dedicated wife and mother, was an active member of her community. She was a Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader, library volunteer and docent at Constitution Island. In 1962, Mary was a contestant on the Price is Right with Bill Cullin, where she won living room furniture. Mary shared her love of flowers through membership in two garden clubs.

A lifetime resident of the Hudson Valley, she enjoyed reading and watching train and river traffic from her home. Mary will always be remembered for her gentle nature and beautiful smile.

She is survived by her loving husband, Henry; loving daughters: Susan Lawney and her husband, Milton, Jane Oswald, and Gloria Edelen and her husband, Jerry; grandchildren: Matthew Lawney and his wife, Gina, Elizabeth Olsen and her husband, Eric, Heather Shafer and her husband, Colin, Victoria Oswald, Alexandra Oswald, Jarrett Edelen and Michael Edelen; and great-grandchildren: Samantha Lawney, Lindsey and Jack Shafer; two sisters, Ellen and Gloria. She was predeceased by her twin sisters, Alice and Virginia.

There will be no visitation.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, with the Rev. Jack Arlotta officiating. Interment will follow in Eagle Valley Cemetery in the Town of Highlands.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to the Highland Falls Public Library, 298 Main St., Highland Falls, NY 10928.
