Alan McKnight's career could be called a Rocky Mountain sandwich on two slices of Ulster County.

He worked as a teacher and illustrator and ran a graphic arts business in Saugerties during the 1980s. He then moved out West and painted the impressive mountain landscapes before recently moving back to Ulster County.

Those watercolors of mountain ranges and scenes of the West are going to be part of the "Healing Art" program March 5-April 30 at the Ellenville Regional Hospital on Route 209 in Ellenville.

An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. March 5, and regular hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. Call 647-6400, ext. 286.

Second is the brand new series "Poetry in the Gallery," which will kick off at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wurtsboro Art Alliance, 73 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro, and continue the first Sunday of each month. The featured poet for the initial event is local favorite Robert Milby, who has been reading his work around the Hudson Valley for more than 20 years.
