Mary Grace Patricia OConnell of New Windsor, NY, died on February 27, 2008 at Elant Nursing Home in the Town of Newburgh, NY. She was 84.

Mary Grace was born in New York City on March 17, 1923 to Joseph D. Keane, Sr. and Grace (OMalley) Keane. She was former Registered Professional Nurse. Mary Grace married Camillus A. OConnell on November 30, 1944 in Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca, NY. She had been a Harpersfield, NY and Umatilla, FL resident for 20 years, prior New City, NY for 22 years, and prior Montrose, NY.

Mary Grace attended Mt. St. Vincent College in the Bronx, and graduated from St. Vincents Hospital School of Nursing in N.Y.C., with a degree in Science and Practice of Nursing. She was CCD Administrator, 8th grade teacher and Confirmation Instructor for St. Francis of Assisi parish in West Nyack, NY. She was also a guide for the Historical Society of Rockland County, New City, NY; a member of the Harpersfield Historical Society, Harpersfield, NY; New City Brownie Leader; public and parochial elementary school Class Mother, and neighborhood nurse. She loved sports, hiking, gardening, canoeing, reading, and playing games with her family and friends, especially Scrabble and Dominos.

She was famous for writing wonderful letters that were treasured by her family and friends. She was also extremely interested in Colonial and American Indian History and was a talented calligrapher.

Mary Grace is survived by her sons, Michael of New Windsor and companion, Jean Estupinan, Thomas and his wife, Mary Anne of Ann Arbor, MI, Brian OConnell and his wife, Nancy Fremont of Astoria, NY; daughters, Mary and husband, Dr. Frank Meyers of Amherst, MA, Theresa and husband, Christopher Reesbeck of Pearl River, NY; sister-in-law, Kathryn Nelson Keane of Manchester, CT; and brother-in-law, Robert P. OConnell of Bloomington, NY; 11 grandchildren: Michael, Jr. of York PA, Christopher, Erin, and James of New Windsor, NY, Daniel of Columbia, SC, Caitlin of Milwaukee, WI, Nicholas DAmbroso of Monroe, NY, Regina DAmbroso-Freeman of Wilmington, NC, Brian Meyers of N.Y.C., Christopher Meyers of Nashville, TN, Patrick Meyers of Amherst, MA; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Madison of New Windsor, NY, Kailey of York, PA, Jayla DAmbroso-Freeman of Wilmington, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Camillus of over 60 years; her brothers, Joseph Bernard Keane and Joseph D. Keane, Jr.; sister, Barbara Ann and brother-in-law, Robert Fleming; daughter, Joanne; son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Linda; son-in-law, Andre DAmbroso; sisters-in-law, Eileen Sackler Drake and Mary Murphy OConnell.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, New City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustines Church in New City, NY. Cremation will be private.
