MIDDLETOWN — Children attending the YMCA camp at the Highland Avenue location were briefly gathered up Monday when a furry visitor slipped under a fence and into their yard.
One of the kids yelled “coyote!” said Pat Weiss, associate executive director of the Middletown YMCA, and others took up the cry.
“We don't know if it was a coyote. We just know it was an unleashed and uncollared dog,” she said. Either way, she said, the animal trotted around, then left.
The city's animal control officer was called, and checked the area. The bowed spot in the fence that the animal got through was repaired to avoid a recurrence. “The kids thought it was great,” Weiss said. “They were all excited.”
