Three mid-Hudson Valley police departments will get federal money to pay police salaries.

The cities of Newburgh and Poughkeepsie along with the Village of Monticello won grants through a Department of Justice program called Community Oriented Policing Services.

Roughly 7,000 state and local agencies applied for the aid under the COPS program that is part of the $787 billion stimulus package. Only about 1,000 will receive money.

Newburgh will get $937,480. Monticello will get $253,313 and Poughkeepsie will get $1,050,400. The three were among 12 agencies in New York that will receive a total of $19,931,056.
