MONTICELLO — Police say a Monticello man broke into a woman’s home on Saturday and beat and choked her.
Around 7:30 a.m., Rufus Hackett Jr., 41, climbed through a window of an apartment at the Evergreen Housing Complex and attacked her, refusing to leave, police say. She was described as an acquaintance.
He eventually fell asleep and the victim went to the Monticello police station. Police arrested Hackett in a bedroom. He was charged with burglary, a felony, and unlawful imprisonment and assault, misdemeanors, and taken to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
