Description: This supercell storm began in Sturgis, SD on July 13th, 2009, went east and then south. We chased this storm for 9 hours. This was about 8 hours into the chase, about 15 miles south of Valentine, Nebraska in the Sand Hills region of Cherry County. Wind was being sucked up into this storm at over 60 miles per hour, scouring the fossilized dunes and sending sand into our ears, eyes and teeth. Lightning was almost constant with this storm. You can see the double inflow tail streaming in from the right side, the lower inflow tail on the ground. The blue-green under the darkest part of the storm on the left side is intense hail to at least baseball size.
