GOSHEN — A judge on Wednesday sentenced William Dineen of Pine Bush to seven years in state prison for slashing two people in Middletown last year.
Dineen was convicted by a jury in February, after a trial in Orange County Court. Prosecutors asked for seven years for each of two charges of second-degree assault, a felony, and asked Judge Nicholas DeRosa to run the sentences consecutively. DeRosa declined; Dineen's lawyer, Ben Ostrer, pointed out that Dineen served in the military and had no previous record.
In addition to the seven years, Dineen will be on parole supervision for five years after he's released.
“You're going to have a lot of time to think about what you did, Mr. Dineen,” DeRosa told him, “and why you did it.”
