Essie Cousar McDonald, a 53-year resident of Newburgh, entered in eternal rest on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 80 years old.

The daughter of the late Walter McLaurin and Lillie Cousar, she was born September 25, 1930 in Maxton, NC.

Essie was a retired Nurse's Aide for Dillion Nursing Home in New Windsor. She was a member of the Holy Temple United Holy Church in Newburgh.

Survivors include her loving and devoted daughters: Patricia McDonald (Tony), Stella Williams (Archie), Pauline Joseph (Charles), Dawanda McDonald-Brantley (James); sons: Russell McDonald (Sonja), Charles McDonald, Archie McDonald (Linda), all of Newburgh, and Jerome McDonald of Middletown, NY. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her granddaughter, Arvia McDonald-McCaskill, for her dedication and presence during mother's final days.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John Willie McDonald Sr.; two sons, John Willie McDonald Jr., and Clarence Ray McDonald; two daughters, Doris McDonald and Carolyn McDonald; four brothers: Jim Cousar, James Cousar, Willie Howard Cousar and Richard Cousar; five sisters: Annie Mae Burton, Willie Mae Walker, Martha Williams, Arletha Mills and Lillian Cousar, and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Thursday, December 30, at Holy Temple United Holy Church, 179 South St., Newburgh, with services beginning at noon at the church. Pastor Jerrelle Benoit will officiate. Internment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
