On February 25, 2011, John MacKinnon Montfort, a loving husband and father, loyal friend and dedicated business leader, passed away at the age of 88 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
John was born in Wappingers on December 24, 1922. He was schooled and finally went into the family business. John joined his father Peter in the business and finally took over the reins of Montfort Bros., Inc. He conducted his business with honesty and integrity. John was a giant of a man. He walked with quiet humility and strength. His contemporaries admired his strengths. He forged many friendships and business partnerships on a handshake. A meticulous and methodical man, his work ethic was incomparable. John was intelligent and had a great wit. Those who knew him saw his kindness and generosity. He will be greatly missed by all at The Montfort Group and all of his friends.
John loved fishing and had great fishing stories - always the one that got away! His triumph is hanging on the wall in his office.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Beverley; son, James; grandchildren: Alexander John and Elizabeth, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, and dear longtime friend, Bruce Nestler. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Montfort and son, Jay D. Montfort.
