July 26, 1957 - September 7, 2016
William Chester (Billy) Rainey was born on July 26, 1957, to the late Doris West-Washington and William Chester Rainey Sr. Affectionately called "Billy", he was raised by his mother, Doris West-Washington and step-father the late Kaizer W. Washington.
Billy attended school at P.S. 58x, Intermediate School, 155x, in Bronx, NY, Benjamin Franklin High School, Manhattan, NY. While growing up in a strong close-knit family, Billy learned at an early age about hard work and discipline. Billy was baptized at a very early age under Pentecostal faith.
While attending school, Billy found the love of music and had a talent in music that was beyond phenomenal. He had earned a scholarship to attend Juillard School of Music, due to personal obligations, he had to relinquish his scholarship. Billy was able to write and play just about any musical instrument, but the one instrument he mastered the most was the saxophone. His love for music spanned across the genres, from Gospel to R&B and especially James Brown. Billy was able to take a song, re-write it and still play it like the original. He played music by ear. He also had a love for the game of basketball.
His most rewarding job was being a father to his daughter Dominique K. Rivera of the Bronx. A loving brother to his siblings, a fantastic uncle to his nieces and nephews and an even greater love when he became a grandfather!
The legacy that Billy leaves behind is his wisdom, patience and kindness. His philosophy was "Do what you have to do in order to be happy." While his health began to deteriorate, his mind remained strong. On the morning of September 7, 2016, the Lord saw fit to call Billy home. We know that Billy rests in God's hands.
