Carol Agnes Whalen passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 13, 2016 at the age of 84.
Carol was born in Yonkers, NY on February 4, 1932 to Agnes and Frank Maitre. Carol was a nurse for over 30 years and earned a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Dominican College.
She was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church for over 50 years where she was a member of the Catholic Family Movement, Meals on Wheels, and also a volunteer for Young Catholic Servants. During the past 20 years, Carol was a Eucharistic minister for patients at Nyack Hospital through St. Ann's Church and enjoyed providing comfort with her warm and caring ways. She was a longtime member of the community bible study and found great comfort in her faith. Carol was also a member of the Senior Citizens Nanuet 2 group and enjoyed spending time with her friends. Carol was an avid bowler and was a member of the St. Anthony's bowling team for many years.
Carol's joy in life was her family. She was the beloved mother of Mark (Peggy) of Warwick, NY, David (Marge) of Myrtle Beach, SC, John (Rick) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Paul of Nanuet, NY; daughter-in-law, Debbie Whalen of Nanuet, NY, Jeanine (Jimmy) of Nanuet, NY, Peter (Susan) of Nanuet, NY; cherished grandmother of Bryan (Cori), Jennifer (Andrew), Jason (Suzanne), Elizabeth, Nicholas, Christopher, Luke, Danielle Rose, Tyler, Casey, Tommy, Timmy, and Theresa; loving great-grandmother of Payton, Reagan, Shay, Kellen and Landon.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony's Church.
