James T. Giery entered into rest peacefully in his sleep at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC on September 20th, 2016. He was 63 years old. The son of the late James T. and Jeanne (nee Burger) Giery, Jimmie was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Queens, NY, and grew up in Marine Park, Brooklyn.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1977-1983 with the Military Police, stateside and in Germany. In July 1984, Jimmie was appointed to the New York City Police Department earning the rank of Detective. He served one year in Bosnia attached to the United Nations Police Task Force, 1996-97. In 2005, he retired from the NYPD Forensic Investigation Division. A second career drew him back to Germany working as an investigator for the Department of Defense. In 2012, he retired to sunny Myrtle Beach, SC with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Catrine Antonie Kyster Christensen Giery and his children: James J., Sean T. and Karen Irene; siblings: Jeanmarie Spadaro, Dawn Blades and Sean M. Giery. Also surviving is his former spouse, Jill Ann O'Brien.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 14th at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville, NY. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
