Harry Leroy Baker, Jr, age 57 passed into God's hands on Friday, March 9, 2018.

A long-time resident of both Newburgh NY and Marlboro, NY, Harry was known for his basketball skills as a Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) legend during the late 1970s and went on to play college ball at the former Northern Montana College.

Harry coached basketball for the Marlboro CYO teams and treasured his time with his loving family and friends. In 2013, Harry retired from NYS Department of Corrections at Downstate after dedicating nearly 30 years of service in Corrections.

He will be remembered for his love of his wife and children, family BBQs, asking a multitude of questions of his nieces and nephews to keep up on their lives, his poker games with his mother-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends. He is survived by his wife, Debra who he started dating in 1973 and have been married for the last 28+ years. Harry adored his children, Harry Leroy III, who graduated from Penn State University and now works for NYS Child & Family Services; and his daughter, Courtney, who is a senior at Brown University in Providence, RI. Harry is pre-deceased by his parents, Harry Leroy Baker Sr. and Theatrice Baker (Newburgh). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Irene Russell (Newburgh), his Uncle Walter Walker (Felicia) of Fishkill, Lilline Powell (Texas), in-laws Tina and David Johnson (Maybrook), Susan Peterkin and Henry Peterkin (Maybrook), Franklyn and Kim Russell (Marlboro), and a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will have visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 with a service at 12 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 245 Liberty St., Newburgh, Pastor John Borden officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
