Maspeth, NY

Genevieve Dumser "Jean or Gen" (nee Modrak), age 101, almost 102 of Maspeth NY, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018 at Valley View Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. She was born June 6, 1916 in Greenpoint Brooklyn NY, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Modrakowski.

Genevieve was born and raised in Greenpoint Brooklyn, during the depression with her seven brothers and sisters. She loved them all very much and always spent a lot of time with them and their families throughout the years. Family was the most important thing in the world to her.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Her three grandchildren were the light of her life and she would do anything for them. They loved her, their nana, equally as well. She was also the best mother-in-law a girl could have and will always be appreciated for her love and how she put family first. She taught me a lot.

Genevieve also had many nieces and nephews whom she enjoyed and loved as well.

Genevieve "Jean" was pre-deceased by her husband August J. Dumser to whom she was married for 58 years, before his death in 2003. Jean was the last of seven siblings. She was pre-deceased by her sisters: Kathryn Kordelski, Helen Nash, Ann Albert, Dorothy Modrak, and her brothers, Edward Modrak and Chester Modrak.

She is survived by her son, August J. Dumser and his wife, Rita Dumser of Washingtonville, NY; her three grandchildren: Thomas Dumser and his wife, Catherine of Emerson NJ, Matthew Dumser of Jackson Heights NY, and Laura Dumser and her fiance, Glenn Perry and great-grandson, Glenn Christopher Perry of Cornwall NY.

We, her family are eternally grateful to the entire staff on D100 at Valley View for loving Gen and taking such good care of her.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 18 at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY 10992. Funeral Services will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 19 at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Ave., Washingtonville. Interment follows at Calvary Cemetery, Queens NY.
