Thomas Barnitt passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Manhattan, NY, June 11, 2018. He was the son of late Arthur Barnitt and Barbara Florio and beloved husband of 36 years to Betty Ann and loving father to son Michael and daughter Kelly.

Tommy was born on May 15th, 1956 in the Bronx, NY and spent most of his childhood and young adult life in Pearl River, NY; "The Town of Friendly People." He has lived with his family in Campbell Hall, NY for the past 30 years where he had many friends and fond memories of playing music, attending concerts and hosting family parties. Tommy made his career on the NYPD working in the 20th precinct, Manhattan North Narcotics Division and eventually joining the Drug Enforcement Joint Task Force earning the rank of Detective, 2nd Grade. A self-proclaimed "Narco Raider," Tom loved his time on the force and the lifelong friends he made along the way.

Tommy will be remembered for his love for Betty Ann, "the love of his life", the love for his children and family, as well as the friendship and smiles he gave many with his great sense of humor. His passion for music was unmatched and he enjoyed listening to the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers.

Tom is survived by his wife, Betty Ann; son, Michael; daughter, Kelly and her husband, William; brothers, Artie and Robert (Lisa); sister. Annemarie (Alton), Thomas Moroney "Pop-Pop" his father-in-law, and the entire Moroney family. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 & 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, Pearl River, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Aedan's RC Church, Pearl River with interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
