Elma L. Rich, affectionately known as "Aunt Elma", was born April 16, 1927 in Clinton, NC to the late Clemmie L. and Emma J. Boykin-Rich, departed this life on Friday, September 28, 2018 in Newburgh, NY.
She was educated in the North Carolina school system. Her spiritual ministry consisted of her membership at the Lisbon St. Missionary Baptist Church.
In the late 1950s, she became adventurous and relocated to a city with bright lights - Newburgh, NY. After her relocation, she became employed as a presser at Johnson Laundry, where she worked diligently for 17+ years.
Sister Rich joined Ebenezer Baptist Church on Sunday, March 20, 1977 and remained a faithful and devoted member where her services were rendered as an Usher until her health prevented her from doing so.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her memories the bookends; her eldest sister, Minnie L. Williams and youngest brother, Clemmie L. Rich of Clinton, NC; a devoted niece, Maxine Williams of Newburgh, NY; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Emily Rich-Newkirk, Jannie Rich-Pearson, Lula M. Rich; a brother, Thomas Rich and her longtime companion, Samuel Johnson.
Ms. Rich will lie in repose from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 9th at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 76 First Street, Newburgh, NY. Funeral service begins at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Bruce Davis will officiate. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middlehope, NY.
