Ruth Magid of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Alpharetta, GA and Liberty, NY, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2018.
Ruthie was born on May 2, 1928 in Mountaindale, NY in the Catskill Mountains. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Celia Meyerson and was next to the youngest of five sisters and one brother. Ruthie was married to the love of her life, husband, Marvin Magid for over 54 years. After Marvin retired from the insurance business, they moved to Alpharetta to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and a former member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Atlanta where she volunteered and worked in the gift shop for several years.
She was also active in her grandchildren's school after moving to Alpharetta. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was their best advocate and they could do no wrong! She developed a close and special relationship with each of them. She was an excellent cook and baker and was happiest when her family was together.
Ruthie was very talented as an artist, jewelry maker and had a talent for interior design and fashion.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Marvin Magid, of blessed memory. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters: Charlotte Schwartz, Doris Kaminsky, Sara Rosen, Lillian Shabus; and brother, William Meyerson who died as a young child. Survivors include her daughters, Debra Lofaro and her husband Michael of Hendersonville, NC, Robin Gordon Pinson and her husband Jessie of Blue Ridge, GA; and grandchildren: Ariel Gordon of Athens, GA, Matthew Gordon of Miami Beach, FL and Joseph Gordon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be designated to Hadassah or Congregation Beth Shalom, 5303 Winters Chapel Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30360.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 14th at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs with Rabbi Mark Zimmerman officiating.
