July 5, 1953 - January 1, 2019
Sylvia Ann Diaz-Kohloa passed away New Year's Day, Tuesday. January 1, 2019 in Chattanooga, Tennessee with her loving husband Shubalii by her side.
Sylvia was the first daughter born to the late Jesse Pearl Moore (Bean) and Willie Gerald Moore, in Greenville, Florida on July 5, 1953.
For 37 years she was a devoted Seventh-Day Adventist at Ellenville and in recent years Newburgh SDA church. Sylvia also contributed greatly to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the National Cancer Society.
Sylvia graduated from Monticello High School and later worked as a hall monitor at the Ellenville Elementary School where she met her dear friend, Eunice Thomas. Sylvia felt the desire to help in a way that would touch and benefit children and their families' lives. She decided to advance her education and received an Associate's Degree from Orange County Community College, then proceeded to SUNY New Paltz and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Pathology. Proud of her accomplishments, she pressed on with determination to achieve a Master's Degree in Education from Empire State University, all while raising two children.
While furthering her education, she worked for over 30 years at Sullivan ARC where she was a reliable and trustworthy advocate for mentally and physically impaired individuals. This is also where her strongest friendships were formed. Sylvia would walk through the halls smiling, waving, shaking hands, and hugging individuals saying a friendly, "Hey, How ya doing today?" With her most recent job at Sullivan County Head Start as Assistant Director to Mrs. Bertha Williams, Sylvia was able to work with children and families again, which she enjoyed doing each day.
Sylvia married Miguel Diaz in 1973 and from this union two children were born. Sylvia later married Shubalii Kohloa on April 22, 2001 and shared a beautiful life being God's faithful servants together for 17 years.
Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Shubalii Kohloa of Ellenville, NY; two daughters, Deliciana "Leci" Diaz (Chris Holmes) of Ellenville, NY and Moniquka "Moe" Diaz (Reggie Ruffin) of Rock Hill, NY.
Sylvia will be greatly missed by her father, Willie G. Moore (Fran) of Woodbourne, NY and four grandchildren: Tyrique Allen-Kafir Wooten, Christian Jacob Holmes, Aja Rae Corley and Bryce Alan Corley, all who she loved with everything in her heart! siblings: Willie Moore, Jr. of Postdam, NY, Clifford Moore of Wurtsboro, NY, LoShawn Moore of St. Petersburg, Florida, Christopher Moore of Sparta, NJ and Stephanie Turner of Sandy Springs, GA. Loving nieces: Detra Moore (Sylvia's sister-niece) of Woodridge, NY and Meghan Marie Turner of Sandy Springs, GA; loving nephews: Cory Moore (Debbeigh) of Pine Bush, NY and Marcus Moore of Carson, California; two grand-dogs: Sasha and London which she loved as family. Plus a host of beautiful relatives, friends, church family and co-workers.
Sylvia is predeceased by her mother, Jesse Pearl Moore, sister Jannie Clark and her grandson, Dominick M. Corley.
Sylvia loved the Lord as well as her family, friendly interactions (she would smile and walk up to strangers and say "Hey!"), good music and she was an awesome dancer! She loved to dance! Sylvia was truly a bright shining light with a beautiful smile that will be remembered forever! We love you!
