Lawrence Victor Egan of Warwick, NY, South Carolina and Liberty, NY died January 7, 2019. He was 87 years old.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (Tierney) Egan and his son, John Egan. The father of five children, Mr. Egan was a retired teacher at Sugar Loaf Union Free School in Chester, NY and a former executive at the Pirelli tire corporation.
He is survived by his sons: Lawrence Egan Jr. of South Carolina, Terence Egan of Milford, PA, and Matthew Egan of Warwick, NY. He is also survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Egan of Minisink, NY. Born and raised in Rosedale, in Queens, NY by parents William and Josephine (Anderson) Egan, Lawrence had ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
When it came to sports, he was spoiled silly - alive for 24 New York Yankees' World Series championships, 22 of which he remembered distinctly. He passed that love to his sons, Larry, John and Matthew, but the ungrateful Terry, in 1965, followed Tom Seaver to the New York Mets. Lawrence was also a life-long fan of the New York Giants, a team ungrateful sons Terry and Matthew turned their backs on in favor of Joe Namath and the New York Jets.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; had a losing career record as a Little League coach because he made sure everyone on the team played (and got a Yoo-hoo afterwards) and he enjoyed a passion for aviation. Lawrence had a giant mind, a forgiving nature, a deep love for his wife, brothers and sisters, Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey and the poetry that was Joe DiMaggio.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Warwick, NY followed by interment in the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY.
Life will be less fun now without him.
