Sunset concert on the farm

WARWICK - The lush setting of Scheuermann Farms is just right for the sunset concert presented by Warwick Summer Arts Festival, 6 p.m. July 28. It's an evening of live music, dance performances and celebration. Visitors are invited to bring picnics, blankets and chairs.

The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn headline the concert, with a danceable mix of early jazz, swing and blues. Teen bands Chemical Catastrophe and Eleventh Hour, winners of the 2018 Battle of the Bands fundraiser, open the show. Warwick Dance Collective will perform on the lawn, where guests often find themselves frolicking as well, under the stars, nestled up against the cornfields with views of the black dirt vistas.

Tuneful homage

WASHINGTONVILLE - Dylan Owen, a musician with deep ties to Orange County, has released a new song, honoring his grandfather John Spear of Washingtonville. Spear was the longtime editor and publisher of the Orange County Post, and was a 50-year member of the Washingtonville planning board.

Owen says he wrote the song, called "Mourn," as his "way of honoring my grandfather who supported my music by always photographing my live events, printing my album booklets in the print shop, and in many other ways."
