Single-family house sales nearly doubled in Sullivan County in August compared to a year earlier.

The Sullivan County Board of Realtors recorded 63 sales last month, up from 34 in August 2015. The median price also zoomed upward to $152,500 from $127,700 a year earlier.

Lynne Freda, president of the Sullivan County Board of Realtors, said in an email that second-home sales were strong. Low interest rates have also helped the market, she said.

Figures compiled by the Ulster County Board of Realtors reflected slightly increasing sales, and a small drop in the median price. There were 144 sales last month, up from 140 in August 2015. The median sale price dropped over the same period to $214,450 from $224,300.

Monthly sale figures for Orange County were unavailable from the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, which only releases them on a quarterly basis.
