LOCH SHELDRAKE – Six weeks after naming John “Jay” Quaintance officer in charge of SUNY Sullivan, the college’s board of trustees on Wednesday appointed Quaintance interim president of the two-year school.
His appointment is effective for one year or until a permanent president is appointed, according to a press release from the college.
Quaintance has 18 years’ experience in higher education in New York and New Mexico. Most recently, he served as assistant secretary for education under Gov. Andrew Cuomo, working on statewide P-12 and higher education budget, policy development and implementation.
Quaintance also served as assistant vice chancellor and assistant provost for community college policy and planning at the State University of New York.
Former SUNY Sullivan president Karin Hilgersom left in May to become president of Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nev.
