MONTICELLO - The Adult and Continuing Education Program at Sullivan BOCES is offering a

4-hour Pistol Permit Pre-Licensing Course on Feb. 17 at the Kauneonga Lake Fire Hall from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $85

This 4-hour non-shooting course introduces the pistol permit applicant to the basic skills necessary for the safe storage and handling of firearms and ammunition. You will learn the basic rules of safe firearms handling, the primary causes of firearms accidents, basic firearms nomenclature, safe unloading and loading procedures, common ammunition types and components, basic care and cleaning and ways to safely store firearms in the home. Gain advice on what to look for when purchasing a handgun. The course provides a brief overview of NYS laws that cover firearms and use of force. Upon completion of this course you will receive a certificate of training to present with you pistol permit application.

The instructor is a 20 year veteran law enforcement officer who has 10 years in SWAT. He is a NYS Certified Firearms Instructor, FBI Certified Firearms Instructor and NRA Certified Instructor. He has taught numerous firearms classes to law enforcement, SWAT and civilians.

This course will also be held: March 10; April 21; May 19; June 16.

Important: This class is not applicable to you if you are applying for an Orange County pistol permit. You must take the class from an instructor on the Orange County List.
