SAUGERTIES – Police charged a Saugerties man Monday with assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and blood circulation and criminal mischief.

Kunchok Ngn, 42, was arrested when police went to his residence on Chestnut Hill Road at 10:47 p.m. to investigate a report of domestic abuse, according to a press release from the Saugerties Police Department.

During the dispute, Ngn reportedly choked a woman and when she tried to call 911, he took away her cell phone. Then he hit her in the head with his hands, the release said.

Ngn was arraigned on the charges, all misdemeanors, in town of Woodstock Court and sent to the county jail on $2,000 bail.
