NEW WINDSOR – A New Windsor man was hurt when he was thrown out of his car during a crash on Jackson Avenue Wednesday night.

New Windsor police said Zachary Carey, 23, of New Windsor, was driving his 2004 Subaru Impreza south on Jackson Avenue near the Presentation Way intersection at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when he drove off the road, apparently flipped over and was ejected from the car. The Subaru then hit a tree and caught fire.

It is not clear why Carey failed to negotiate the road.

New Windsor police, the Vails Gate Fire Department and the New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps all responded to the scene. Carey was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. No further information about his condition was available.
