WOODBURY – State police said Monday one person was killed in a three-car crash on Route 6 in Woodbury Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened about one mile west of the Long Mountain traffic circle
State police said Loreal Maldinaldo, 28, of Ozone Park, was driving 2017 Hyundai west on Route 6 at 1:10 p.m. when she crossed the double yellow line, striking an eastbound 2017 Ford van head-on. A 2008 Chevrolet traveling west then hit the van as it came to a stop in the westbound lane.
The Hyundai caught fire and passersby removed Maldinaldo and her two passengers, a 13-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man, before the fire spread.
Maldinaldo was pronounced dead at the scene and her passengers, who were not identified by police, were taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where they were listed in critical condition.
The van driver, Nickelson Moreau, 36, of Nanuet, and his passenger, who was not identified by police, were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, where they were treated for minor injuries and released. No one in the Chevrolet was injured.
Route 6 was closed for four hours and traffic was diverted to routes 293 and 9W and the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
