YOUNGSVILLE – A house on Mengas Road was destroyed by fire Thursday night.
Youngsville fire Chief Jonathan McGibbon, who lives across the street from the house, saw the fire around 10 p.m. and called 911. Youngsville firefighters were on the scene in minutes, but the house already was fully engulfed in flames, McGibbon said.
“There’s nothing left of the house,” McGibbon said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire.
Firefighters from the White Sulphur Springs, Jeffersonville, Livingston Manor, Callicoon Center and Swan Lake fire companies responded to a mutual aid call and assisted Youngsville firefighters at the scene.
Liberty firefighters were on standby duty.
The homeowner was not home when the fire broke out but arrived at the scene later, McGibbon said.
No firefighters were injured.
Some firefighters were still on the scene dousing hot spots Friday morning.
