TOWN OF WALLKILL – A motorcyclist from Goshen was killed Wednesday on Crystal Run Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and was struck head-on by an oncoming car, police said.
State police at Troop F headquarters identified the motorcyclist as Bert Wolvers, 59.
Police said Wolvers was traveling east on Crystal Run Road about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday near Goshen Turnpike when his motorcycle crossed into the westbound lane and collided with an oncoming car driven by Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher Borek. Police said the impact threw Wolvers from the motorcycle, and he suffered a serious head injury.
Wolvers was pronounced dead at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.
Police said Borek was also taken by ambulance to ORMC. Borek was treated for injuries to his left arm and shoulder, said Trooper Steven Nevel, the Troop F public information officer. Nevel said Borek was not on official county business when the crash occurred.
On Thursday, state police were continuing their investigation into the accident, working with the state police Collision Reconstruction Unit. A statement released Thursday from Troop F headquarters said there is nothing to indicate any criminal activity. Nevel could not say how fast the motorcycle or Borek's car were going, but said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said state police are handling the investigation, and there is no indication of any criminal act contributing to the crash.
Nevel said the investigation will be handled like any other. The Orange County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on Wolvers, and the Collision Reconstruction Unit will determine if medical or mechanical issues contributed to the crash.
