NEW PALTZ — The 9th annual New Paltz Challenge will be held on Father's Day, June 17. Proceeds will benefit the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce and its community projects.

Events will include a half-marathon, family 5k, and/or kids’ 1-mile run. Each run will be filled with beautiful views of New Paltz landscapes.

The half-marathon offers many scenic views. Runners will start along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which will give runners a chance to catch sweeping views of the Shawangunk Ridge. Then runners will head toward the town of Gardiner and see farms while passing the Wallkill River. The race will turn around through the Yard Owl Brewery and end at the National Historic Landmark District on Historic Huguenot Street. The race starting time is 7:30 a.m. for the half-marathon and will be timed in five-year age groups. The half-marathon will be limited to 600 people due to the size of the trail, so early registration is suggested.

The 5K runs along Historic Huguenot Street and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. This race is a combination of trail and road race. The starting time is 8 a.m. for the 5K and will be timed in 10-year age groups.

The 1-mile kids' race is for children ages 5-13 and will be held on the rail trail after the awards ceremony around 10 a.m.
