ELLENVILLE – One man has been charged with assaulting another man in Ellenville on Wednesday, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office said more arrests and more charges are likely.
According to the sheriff’s office, Ellenville police responded to a 911 call reporting the assault at an apartment on Mill Street at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. A preliminary investigation determined the victim had been involved in a dispute with a neighbor. Shortly after the dispute, three men arrived at the victim’s apartment and bludgeoned him with a motorcycle helmet and punched him multiple times, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was taken to Ellenville Regional Hospital by the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad for treatment of broken bones.
The sheriff’s office said detectives located the primary suspect at a convenience store in the Town of Wararsing on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, Lubin C. Castano, 31, of Wawarsing, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony.
He was arraigned in Town of Saugerties Justice Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond, pending an appearance in Village of Ellenville Justice Court.
