MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office arrested Melissa Strain, 28, of Mongaup Valley; and Terrell Staten, 31, of Monticello, on Wednesday in Monticello in connection with an Oct. 7 robbery at a Town of Thompson home, officials said.

According to police, on Oct. 7, the two suspects were at the residence of an acquaintance on Cold Spring Road in the Town of Thompson, when Staten held a box cutter to an individual's throat, while Strain stole the victim's money.

On Oct. 10, 2018, police said, the victim spotted the suspects walking in the Village of Monticello, and notified police.

Monticello police notified sheriff's deputies, who interviewed the victim.

Monticello officers then located the two suspects and turned them over to deputies, and some of the victim's property was recovered, according to police.

Strain and Staten were each charged with the first-degree robbery, a felony, and second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing, and petty larceny, all misdemeanors.

The suspects were arraigned before Town of Thompson Judge Sharon Jankiewicz on Thursday, sent to Sullivan County's jail in lieu of $75,000 bail, and ordered back in court on Monday.
