VILLAGE OF LIBERTY - Village police charged two Liberty men with several felonies after an investigation into a fight that occurred on Mill Street in the early morning hours on Dec. 2.
A village patrol officer was driving on Mill Street about 4:30 a.m., when he noticed two men fighting in the middle of the road, according to a news release issued by police.
One of the men, Carlos Williams, 45, fled into a nearby apartment building when police tried to approach them, police said.
Police found that the other man, Barry Bowser, 50, had been stabbed in the head.
Police said that Bowser had unlawfully entered Williams' apartment and hit him with a two-by-four. Williams chased Bowser out of the apartment building and stabbed him in the head with a knife, police said.
Police said Williams tried to hide the knife in the apartment building after he fled police. Williams was arrested inside the apartment building without further incident.
Bowser was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and was arrested after he was released later that evening.
Williams was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.
Bowser was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.
Both men were arraigned in Town of Liberty Court and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
