Thanks to the generosity of a local donor, the Sullivan County SPCA received the gift of a much-needed new roof, just in time for the severe winter weather season. The roof was in such disrepair that dogs weren’t able to access the outdoor portion of the kennel without tracking in wetness and debris during the harsh rainy and snowy weather.

“We’re thankful for the support of our community to be able to help these defenseless animals,” said SCSPCA Manager Debbie Dittert. “Having a generous donor make the roofing project a reality has been an amazing gift.”

The donors, who wish to remain anonymous, donated $20,000 for the roof. They have also pledged to match additional donations up to $30,000 for other repairs, including fixing the cracked cement flooring and adding an outdoor socialization area to promote adoption.

Supplies are also needed, including non-clumping litter, dog and cat toys and treats, towels, blankets, canned and dry cat and dog food and cleaning supplies. Supplies can be dropped off from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. daily at the shelter in Rock Hill. For a complete list, go to sullivanspca.org/donate-goods/.

Monetary donations can be sent to Sullivan County SPCA, P.O. Box 995, Rock Hill, NY 12775 or call 796-3120 or made on the shelter’s Facebook page or website.
