WARWICK — In celebration of National Arthritis Month, St. Anthony Community Hospital will present an informational event, “Complementary Herbal Remedies and Therapies,” along with a free food demonstration and tasting.

The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 21 in the Greenbriar Room at Mount Alverno Center, 20 Grand St., Warwick.

Mount Alverno is just a quarter mile past the hospital and there is ample parking space. Seating, however, is limited and participants must register in advance by calling 987-5197.

The evening will feature education and exploration of some popular holistic herbal remedies and therapeutic modalities for health and wellness.

The hospital’s Food and Nutrition Department, under the direction of Mark Brezina, will host this event. Janine Killeen RD, CDE; joined by Gigi Fried, RD and Lynn Palmieri, DTR will discuss the pros and cons of holistic herbal remedies along with a food preparation demonstration by Culinary Institute of America graduate Chef Brian Smyth. Denise Hamilton-Jones will also offer a presentation on reflexology, an alternative treatment involving application of pressure to the feet and hands.

The food demonstration and tasting will feature turmeric-garlic-chicken with red cabbage mango slaw, garlic-ginger rice, raw coconut and turmeric chocolate truffles and 24k gold vanilla turmeric latte (golden milk).
