NEWBURGH — The Newburgh Free Library at 124 Grand Street in Newburgh, is proud to announce its annual Summer Reading Program and Summer Programming for children, teens, and adults. The national theme for Summer Reading this year is a "Universe of Stories."

The fun begins with the library’s fourth annual free mini comic-con the NFLXpo on June 15 from noon-4 p.m. This event for children, families, and adult fans of comic books, manga, superheroes and all things pop culture includes vendors, panel presentations, a cosplay contest and more

Summer reading registration for adults and youth will begin on June 17. This year our librarians put together a Sun-sational Summer Challenge to encourage adults to read more adventurously and discover all the Library has to offer, and get a chance to win a prize. Adults can sign up to participate in the Sun-sational Summer Challenge at the Main Library or Town Branch. Among the offerings for adults this summer is a lecture from UFO expert and scientific researcher Linda Zimmermann on June 19 at 7 p.m., a lecture with a NASA space ambassador on July 22 at 7 p.m., a two part storytelling workshop with professional storyteller Lorraine Hartin-Gelardi at 7 p.m. on July 15 and July 18, and an astrology class on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. Check out the calendar (newburghlibrary.org) for specific dates and program times.

Summer Reading for Adults will conclude with a celestial celebration on Aug. 15 from 6-8 p.m. The Newburgh Free Library will announce its Sun-sational Summer Challenge prize winners, as participants chat about their favorite books and programs they attended this Summer.

Registration for the “Universe of Stories” reading program for youth of all ages – from Birth to Teens – begins on June 17 with story times, crafts, movies, book clubs, teen volunteer opportunities and special events ready to launch young imaginations. The Town Branch will be hosting “A Universe of Dogs” in Center Court on July 6 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. featuring dogs from the Tail Waggin’ Tutors program and a sample of yoga for children with Miss Susan from Rae of Light Studio. Families are invited to “meet” telescopes and find out how to become backyard astronomers at “Discover ‘Scopes” on July 25 at 7 p.m. On August 1 at 2 p.m. the Main Library will showcase David Engel’s Jedi Academy, a comedy variety show with plenty of laughs and some rebel skills training for children.
