Alex Prizgintas recently completed his freshman year at Marist College with honors and begins his summer on a high note — literally. Seen here with State Senator James Skoufis, Alex performed for the Senator’s fundraising event at Playa Winery in Highland Mills recently. “I’ve been using local open mics and nursing homes to develop and fine tune selections from Bach to Jimi Hendrix and with my looping station, distortion and delay pedals I’ve discovered some great ways to recreate classic rock on the electric cello,” explains Alex. “Just today I received an invitation to play at a Woodstock Conference, “1969: When Woodstock Changed the World,” to be held at Marist College June 13 where noted historian, author and CNN contributor Douglas Brinkley will be the keynote speaker. Someone heard my version of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Purple Haze’ and thought it would be a fitting opening to this special two-day conference.” Additionally, Alex's work will be highlighted later this summer on July 27 at Noble Roasters for the Music for Humanity Series. He can also be regularly heard playing at Woodbury Common throughout the summer. [Photo provided]
