MONTGOMERY — A pick-up truck driver was killed in a crash on I-84 Tuesday evening.

A black 2008 Chevrolet pick-up truck rolled over several times, traveling about 150 yards, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene at around 6:30 p.m. in the town of Montgomery, according to state police. The driver was not named in a statement from state police Tuesday evening.

Both lanes westbound on I-84 were closed as of 9:30 p.m. and traffic was diverted off exit 5A to have drivers re-enter the major highway on exit 5, according to a statement from state police.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and witnesses are being asked to contact state police in Montgomery at 457-1388 with information.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the pick-up truck traveled in the passing lane behind a tractor trailer and another uninvolved vehicle, according to state police. When the driver of the pick-up truck attempted to return to the passing lane after entering the right lane to pass the tractor trailer and the other vehicle, they struck the tractor trailer in the right lane and lost control of their vehicle, the release stated.
