CORNWALL – Two men were hurt in a head-on collision on Route 32 near North Jacqueline Street just after noon Wednesday.

Cornwall police Chief Todd Hazard said a preliminary investigation found that Ralph Hanshaw, 78, of the Bronx, was driving north on Route 32 in a 2002 Buick LeSabre when he apparently crossed into the southbound lane, striking a 2019 Nissan Altima driven by Phillip Silvestre, 52, of New Windsor head-on.

The Vails Gate Fire Department had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. There were no passengers in either car.

Hanshaw and Silvestre were treated at the scene by the Cornwall and New Windsor volunteer ambulance corps, and then taken to the Newburgh campus of Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for further treatment of their injuries.

No tickets were issued and no charges have been filed, but the crash is still under investigation.

New Windsor police assisted Cornwall police with traffic control at the scene.
