TOWN OF WALLKILL - New York State Police will hold a child seat safety event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 21) at Troop F headquarters, 55 Crystal Run Road in the Town of Wallkill.

State police child safety seat technicians will be on hand to install or check child safety seats in vehicles, and they'll also provide information and education on the seats and their use.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 675 passengers aged 12 or younger died in motor vehicle crashes in 2017, and nearly 116,000 were injured. About 35 percent of the fatally injured children that year were not buckled in.

New York law requires children up to age 4 to be secured in a federally approved child restraint seat. Children up to age 4 who weig more than 40 pounds, and children ages 4-7 must be belted into a child safety seat or booster seat appropriate for their height and weight.

The state police event is free, and no appointment is needed.
